ArchivesToshiba introduces XDE upconverting DVD technology eXtended Detail Enhancement adds detail, colour and contrast for higher resolution playback Markham, ON (August 18, 2008) – Toshiba of Canada Consumer Electronics Group (Toshiba) today announced its new video enhancement technology for DVD with the introduction of its XD-E500 upconverting DVD player. More than just an upconverting DVD player, eXtended Detail Enhancement (XDE) takes picture quality to a whole new level, providing upconversion from 480i/p to 1080p with 24 frames per second capability for greater detail, more vivid colours and stronger contrast that brings standard DVD quality closer to the HD experience. “Consumers have embraced the DVD format like no other technology and invested in large libraries of their favourite movies. As the market moves towards high definition, XDE lets viewers enjoy their existing DVD library at a new level” said Kate McCarthy, Toshiba product manager, Digital A/V Category. “XDE offers consumers an affordable solution that works with existing standard DVDs to deliver a near HD experience with added detail and richer colours.” XDE Flexibility XDE offers consumers Sharp Mode, Colour Mode and Contrast Mode selectable picture settings for a rich home entertainment experience: · Sharp Mode offers improved detail enhancement that is one step closer to high definition. XDE enhances edges and makes them sharper to deliver greater detail and visibility in movies. · Colour Mode makes the colours of nature such as blue and green stand out with greater richness. Color Mode combines the improvement in colour with the detail enhancement of Sharp Mode for vibrant and lifelike outdoor scenes. · Contrast Mode makes darker scenes and foregrounds more visible without a “washing out” affect that can occur with traditional contrast adjustment.
